Finger Lickin' Good: My Trip To Nashville, TN

by - September 10, 2017

I’m back again to share all about my adventure to Nashville, TN. Let me just start by saying that I had a heck of an amazing time in Music City and I couldn’t have asked for a better person to spend it with than my sister. This was the first of (hopefully) many sister trips we take to random but totally worth while cities. Hey! Maybe we'll even go international one day. We had so much for exploring what felt like every bit of the city: from walking up and down the always lively and energetic Broadway strip, to visiting a number of museums, and topping it off with a jaw dropping show at the Grand Ole Opry. Not only did we get a good dose of history and culture but, in true Glitter and Grub fashion, we had to hit up a number of good eats along the way. So for all of the deets on Nashville, keep reading.

Good Eats and Tasty Treats

As soon as we got off the plane and checked into our hotel, food was the number one priority. The first stop on our tasty adventure through Nashville was a quaint little dinner just a couple of blocks away from our hotel. While my sister dug into the chicken and waffles, I went a little more traditional with my breakfast choice and opted for the platter of eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, and ham. In addition the all these goodies, my platter also came with one of my favorite southern staples — BISCUITS.AND.GRAVY. Let me tell you……..this spread did not disappoint (well, except for the ham because I’m not all that crazy about breakfast ham). I also indulged in a homemade berry mint lemonade and it was the perfect sweet topper to my incredibly delicious meal.

This was a spot that we hit twice on accident. On our first night in Nashville, we had done some research on nearby places to hit for dinner and Jack's was raving with reviews of a must eat. It's not your typical sit down restaurant: when you arrive, you have to make a line to pick and choose your meat and sides and pay for it at the register - they you can take your seat. It was nice because you could peep all the options and make your choice based on what looked good....then again everything looked delicious and it was hard to make choices. I opted for the St. Louis style ribs with sides of mac & cheese and cole slaw, while my sister had the shredded pork shoulder with sides or mashed potatoes and corn. MY STOMACH WAS SO HAPPY AFTER THIS! And let me just say this was the best coleslaw I've ever had. It was sweet and tangy without the creaminess of most slaws I've had that are mayo based.

Our second trip to Jack's was a part of a walking food tour we did. On this visit, we were provided with a sampler plate which included three meats (beef brisket, smoked sausage, and shredded pork shoulder) along with one side and a slice of cornbread. This time around, I went for the potato salad side.
Since I'm not a fan of cornbread in general, that was my least favorite part of the meal. But getting to sample all of the other meat options and a different side was a major bonus. The brisket just melted in your mouth and the sausage was smoked to perfection.

P.S: Jack's has SIX signature sauces and you absolutely must try every.single.one.of.them. They were all delicious in their own ways: smoky, spicy, bbq, tangy, and sweet.

Another quick sample stop on our walking food tour. Honestly, I don't even know how I was able to fit another bite of any more food into my mouth after the platter we consumed at Jack's not even an hour prior. Here we got to dig into their signature sliders. Perfectly meaty, dripping with juicy goodness, and topped with yummy cheese. Luckily the slider was just a quick three bite sandwich - granted I only ate half because I was so stuffed already. (Yes, I took out the pickles because I absolutely HATE pickles.)

The last stop on our walking food tour was the Acme Feed & Seed. Here we sampled some "hot chicken" bites. According to our tour guide, they were not what real hot chicken was like, but it was the only restaurant nearby that offered the closest comparison. I don't know what actual hot chicken is supposed to taste like, but I quite enjoyed these little bites too. This also came with a number of sauces to sample it with at the table. I was super obsessed with their Peach & Plenty sauce. I'm all about hot sauces, but this one offered a good balance from the spiced rub the chicken was seasoned with.

If I had to venture a guess at what dying and crossing through the pearly gates of heaven was like, then look no further than Savannah's. This place is full of all sorts of sweet confections and treats. We sampled their ice cream and their made in your face pralines. Heck, I even brought some pralines home to share at work (because  I'm one heck of a nice person like that.)  Along with candy they also offer a jelly bean bar, massive candied apples, and pastries.

Another spot we hit up for dinner was BB King's Blues Club. Our ears were the things that really lead us to this spot. The music that oozed past the front doors was like charming a snake and lead us right inside. I had a cup of their Gumbo Ya Ya which was amazingly spicy and fulfilling and my sister had their chicken salad. Very light eats for dinner that night since it was the same day we'd done the food tour.

When we weren't indulging in all of the to die for foods the city had to offer, we were snacking at our hotel bar or hitting up the nearby Panera for quick breakfast bites.

And that's about it!

Stay tuned for part 2 of this post which will include all of the activities and exploratory spots we hit up while in town.
